The forbidden “F’ Word

I never thought I’d be writing about the forbidden “F” word, but yet here we are. It’s not something you think about unless you’re affected by it and often if it’s the man’s issue, then he isn’t a man and if it’s the woman’s issue, she is defective. While neither of these statements are true, there is a sad stigma about being INFERTILE.

Say it with me guys. IN-FER-TILE. It’s a scary word to most of us and also a very sad word, but that doesn’t mean we should disregard it and ignore it. I have come to a point in my life where I tell everyone I meet…and boy do I mean EVERYONE. I don’t like that I may never have kids, but none the less…it is a part of me.

I formed a local group called the Pineapple Squad as a way for me to overcome the crazy emotions that come with this disease. I wanted to have friends that were just like me and understood what was going on in my life. I wanted that connection that a friend couldn’t understand unless she too understood the pain.

With this group, I have also vowed to spread the word about women and their Fertility. We spend so much of our youths hearing how not to get pregnant that we forget at some point the goal will be to get pregnant and that we will not always have the easy way or even an option to getting there.

With that, I would love to encourage you ladies to spread the word about infertility and about the journey that so many of us are going through. This is especially important for us to reach the younger generations and make sure they are aware of the realities of infertility and that there is help and so much support in our wonderful community.

Share your story! It’s okay if you aren’t comfortable. We all have a time and date when we are ready and some of you may never be ready. Know that this is okay, but if you are ready to share…then share it like the hottest gossip you’ve ever heard. Let the whole world know where you stand. You can even pledge to “Say the F Word” to help raise money and awareness for infertility.

Even if you aren’t ready to share, just know the world will be ready for you when it’s time. I know that not everyone has the same views and there are people who are opposed to making a baby with science, so I get that not everyone can or will share in the cause, but that is okay.

One thing I do ask of all my IN-FER-TILE girls is that you just love yourself and know that you are amazing. You may feel that you’re a failure or not worthy, but know that you are worthy and infertility does not define you as a person. It’s a part of your story, but you are a unique individual with some amazing potential so make sure to take care of yourself.
